5 Reasons to go with us to Guatemala

The Hoodies and I just wrapped up Beth Moore’s study of the book of James, Mercy Triumphs. I’m not sure where to start with favorite verses, but I don’t have to look further than chapter one to find one of the most convicting:

Prayer visit in Guatemala City

Prayer visit in Guatemala City

Religion that God our Father accepts as
pure and faultless is this:
to look after orphans and widows
in their distress

and to keep oneself from
being polluted by the world.
James 1:27

You don’t need me to tell you how to keep from being polluted by the world. God’s Word has plenty to say about that. But you might be interested in an opportunity to help distressed families.

Come with us to Guatemala!

Happy girl!

My friend Alene Snodgrass is leading a group to serve with The Potter’s House, a ministry to families living near the Guatemala City Dump. We have a handful of spots available, and we’d love for you to join us.

  • When: October 9-13, 2013
  • Cost: $545 (airfare NOT included)
  • Includes: Lodging, food, and in-country transportation; all the details and logistics will be taken care of once you arrive
  • Lodging: Normal room with shared bathroom and multiple beds

In case you need any other reasons other than the Great Commission, here are five:

  1. It’s a good opportunity to learn a little Espanol.
  2. You will make new friends.
  3. You may meet my sponsored child, Merely.
  4. You heart will be broken.
  5. You spirit will be refreshed.

It’s also a good chance to let your skin breathe, seeing as how we leave the makeup at home. No pretenses, just serving some of the least of these.

Most of the gals in this video will be returning, including the lovely Carolina, who narrates:

I reflected on our visit to the dump in A Life You Can’t Imagine. It was hard for us as privileged Americans to imagine life as a scavenger in the city dump, but it was good for us to get out of our comfort zones and serve. (Tweet me!)

If the Lord is calling you out of YOUR comfort zone, won’t you pray about joining us? If you can’t join us, would you pray for the ministry of The Potter’s House and consider sponsoring a child there?

Today’s commenters: would you leave a short prayer to encourage us as we prepare for the trip?
